Tongits is a fast-paced 3-player card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The dealer receives 13 cards while the other two players receive 12. The objective is to empty your hand by forming valid melds (sets or runs) or holding the lowest total deadwood points when the central stock pile is exhausted.
Meld Formations: Bahay, Sets, and Sequences
Players assemble combinations consisting of 3 or 4 cards of the same rank (e.g., 7-7-7), or sequences of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 9-10-J of Hearts). Melded cards can be laid down ('Bahay') or attached to existing table melds ('Sapay').
Declaring a Fight and the Butasan Multiplier
If you believe your hand holds the lowest unpaired points, you can declare a 'Fight' prior to drawing, provided you have at least one meld on the table. Opponents can fold or challenge ('Laban'). Winning with an unmelded opponent triggers the punitive 'Butasan' multiplier, doubling or quadrupling payout pots.
Winning by 'Tongits' and Secret Melds
Discarding your final card legally declares an automatic 'Tongits' victory. Secret melds held in hand without exposing them to opponents yield additional pot bonuses from each player at the table.
